5 don’ts when designing kitchen furniture

Designing kitchen furniture can be a challenging task, as it requires a careful balance of form and function. However, even experienced designers can make mistakes when tackling this type of project. Over the last couple of years we delivered north of 300 different kitchen projects in Denmark, Germany and Sweden. This is a summary of five common mistakes (in our opinion) that designers make when designing kitchen furniture:

  1. Ignoring ergonomics: It’s important to design kitchen furniture that is comfortable and easy to use. This means considering the height of countertops, the reachability of shelves, and the placement of appliances. Ignoring ergonomics can lead to kitchen layouts that are inconvenient or even unsafe.
  2. Overlooking storage needs: Another common mistake is failing to provide sufficient storage space. Kitchens are used for a wide variety of tasks, and they require a range of different tools and supplies. Make sure to include plenty of cabinets, drawers, and pantries to meet the storage needs of your clients.
  3. Skimping on quality: Kitchen furniture is subjected to a lot of wear and tear, and it’s important to use high-quality materials that can withstand the rigors of daily use. Don’t cut corners by using cheap, low-quality materials, as they are likely to break down or wear out quickly.
  4. Neglecting aesthetics: While function is important, kitchen furniture should also be attractive. Don’t overlook the importance of aesthetics when designing kitchen furniture. Consider the overall style and theme of the kitchen, and choose materials and finishes that complement the space.
  5. Failing to consider the future: Finally, it’s important to design kitchen furniture that can stand the test of time. This means avoiding trendy styles that are likely to go out of fashion, and choosing materials and finishes that are durable and easy to maintain.

By avoiding these common mistakes, designers can create kitchen furniture that is both functional and beautiful, and that will stand up to the demands of daily use.
